I have just come across publicity for a course (now in the recent past) to help teachers in teaching Latin GCSE. It was to run for one day between 10 a.m. and 3.50 p.m. with two good speakers. And I quote:
COST:
A place on the course costs £175.00 + VAT. This includes: coffee and biscuits on arrival and mid-morning, lunch (in the hotel restaurant), afternoon tea and all course materials.
Now, I have no quarrel with this as a commercial venture. No doubt it was good value for money. The point I want to make is that for less money (£190 and no VAT) you can enjoy a residential course lasting from Thursday 4 p.m. to Sunday lunchtime, with six good speakers and a wide choice of workshops, and with time to share ideas and problems with 50 or so other Classics teachers.
I am talking about the ARLT Summer School. If the one day course is good value for money, then the Summer School is super-value. If you haven't booked yet, then do visit this page and sign up. You will not regret it - guaranteed!
