This looks like a wonderful opportunity to let your Latin and Classical Civ students feel they are 'where it's at', or 'cutting edge.' BBC Time Team are planning archaeology on a grand scale. Here's the beginning of their announcement (read the rest here):

This summer Time Team are hoping you will join them in the most ambitious exploration of Roman Britain ever – not just one fort, villa or even city, but the whole country – Time Team's Big Roman Dig. We plan to excavate or examine a wide range of sites from the 1st century BC to fifth century AD, (Late Iron Age to Early Saxon) in locations all over the UK, and covering all aspects of the Roman occupation.

There will be 1 mega-dig, up to 8 other excavations and a host of other activities going on all over the country. We want you to help us: In effect to help us create a people's map of Roman Britain.

# Discover the truth about Roman Britain.
# Redraw the map of Roman Britain
# Meet the people who lived in Roman Britain...
# ...and outside its borders in places such as Cornwall and Northern Ireland.

What will happen during the Big Roman Dig?

Archaeology isn't just digging! There are a whole host of activities that go to make up our understanding of archaeological sites. The Big Roman Dig will take place over three weeks in the summer from 26th June to the 16th July and we're looking for your ideas. Do you want to:r> # Research your local area?
# Try your hand at fieldwalking?
# Get involved in surveying or geophys?
# Organise or join a local dig?
# Organise a re-enactment?
# Create an event (theatrical, artistic, educational etc.) around Roman monuments in your area?
